Vitamin D: Structure and mechanism of action

نویسندگان

چکیده

Vitamin D has received more attention in recent years as a result of the resurgence vitamin deficiency and rickets global health issue, well compelling evidence laboratory indicating that 1,25-dihydroxy D3 [1,25(OH)2D3], hormonally active form D, generates several extraskeletal biological responses such inhibition breast, colon, prostate cancer cell progression; effects on cardiovascular system; protects against. This review covers our present knowledge its bioactivation, fresh findings have altered understanding activity both classical nonclassical target tissues. page also assesses D's alleged involvement health, provides an overview 1,25(OH)2D3 analogs been created, highlights unanswered problems.

Vitamin D: marker or mechanism of action?

The field of vitamin D and cancer research has been moving forward quickly. However, some challenges remain regarding the interpretation and integration of data collected from epidemiological investigations and laboratory experiments. These include consideration of vitamin D biology, a better understanding of characteristics that affect concentrations of the biomarker of vitamin D status, 25(OH...

Metabolism and molecular mechanism of action of vitamin D: 1981.

Cholecalciferol must be regarded as a pro-hormone rather than a vitamin, since it is normally produced in skin under the influence of ultraviolet light. Cholecalciferol must be metabolized in liver to 25-hydroxycholecalciferol and subsequently to 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol before it can act on intestine, bone and kidney to provide calcium and phosphorus for bone mineralization and neuromuscu...

Vitamin D: Metabolism, Molecular Mechanism of Action, and Pleiotropic Effects.

1,25-Dihydroxvitamin D3 [1,25(OH)2D3] is the hormonally active form of vitamin D. The genomic mechanism of 1,25(OH)2D3 action involves the direct binding of the 1,25(OH)2D3 activated vitamin D receptor/retinoic X receptor (VDR/RXR) heterodimeric complex to specific DNA sequences. Numerous VDR co-regulatory proteins have been identified, and genome-wide studies have shown that the actions of 1,2...

Molecular mechanism underlying the renoprotective action of vitamin D.

The most well-known function of the vitamin D endocrine system is maintaining calcium and phosphorus homoeostasis, but studies in the past decades have unveiled a wide range of activities for vitamin D that extends beyond the regulation of calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Those activities include regulation of renal and cardiovascular functions and modulation of immune responses through the r...

Nonclassical Vitamin D Action

It is becoming increasingly clear that vitamin D has a broad range of actions in the human body. Besides its well-known effects on calcium/phosphate homeostasis, vitamin D influences muscle function, cardiovascular homeostasis, nervous function, and the immune response. Vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency has been associated with muscle weakness and a high incidence of various chronic diseases s...
